Start Charging Rent

A client recently landed an interview for what she thought was her ideal position.  But after the interview she knew it wasn’t the right path for her.  She realized that the job wasn’t what would really fulfill her at this point in her life, but instead a representation of what she thought she should be pursuing based on cultural norms and expectations.

Another client is wrestling with his father’s value of job security, but he himself prioritizes excitement and creativity in his work.

Sometimes it’s tough to separate what we think we should do with what would actually serve us, especially if our voice isn’t the only voice we hear in our minds.

I love the expression “living in your head rent free.” There are a lot of voices living in our heads, whether it’s our parents’ words or just cultural ideology rattling around up there.

As we pursue new paths and make big career and life decisions, sometimes it’s useful to hear all the thoughts, voices and opinions and then ask ourselves; “Who is talking here?  Should I be listening? What does my voice sound like?”

Often, we can’t untangle these questions on our own, and being in a supportive, challenging coaching relationship can help.  Curious about what this might look like for you?  Let’s chat!
