“You Say Goodbye, and I Say Hello”

When I started coaching, my intention was to help people through transitions in their work life.
What I did not consider, was how many changes and transitions this work would create for me!

A coach is not a lifelong partner, but rather someone that works with you to get you over a hump or through something important; a new role, a career pivot, organizational changes within your company. But these things are temporary, and a good coach helps you through so you’re ready to continue on your own, with new tools that you can use and the renewed confidence you needed.

How joyous, to be a part of someone’s growth, change and victory in this way! But, with that joy is the bittersweet part; so often saying goodbye.

I just went through two of these goodbyes.  One client had been with me about six months, having started our work together when she took on a new (challenging and different) role. She came in to our work together feeling uncertain and overwhelmed, and when we said goodbye in our last session, she was feeling confident, accomplished and ready to take on whatever the rest of the year will throw at her. She knows I’m here if she wants to reach out or if there are bumps, but she also knows I have no doubt she has everything she needs to forge ahead.

Another client had been with me almost a year as she navigated a career pivot. We celebrated her successes, and decided just to meet once a month, as she need less support at this point in her professional development. We often talk about the challenges she’s overcome and the successes she’s had in the position; it helps her remember how far she’s come!

It’s sad to say goodbye, but it also gives me the opportunity to say hello to new clients.  Have you been craving a partner in your work?  Are you facing tough changes or challenges at work?
